Question:

What Skis to buy?

I am looking to buy a new pair of skis for this year (I know there are some moths 'till the ski season gets started) anyway, what I mainly need is a pair of skis (preferably twin-tips) that handle very well in medium and deep powder, and also handle very well in moguls and bumps. I'm taking a look at the Atomic Sugar Daddy's and Big Daddy's, as well as their PIMP ski. Also someone recomended the High Society Freeride FRs.

Can anyone make any recomendations and suggestions.

Oh, I have a very bad knee so I need a ski that will not only perform well but put as light strain as possible on my knee. (That's what I get for racing down Powderhorn..........)

  2. Jack,

It ultimately comes down to how wide you want to go. Being that you want something to provide with good float a be able to ski powder and bumps I would recommend something between 90-95mm wide with a relatively straight shape. Now that being said my top choices for what you are looking for would consist of the LINE Prophet 90, the Dynastar Big Trouble and the Atomic Snoop Daddy. All three of these skis are more then capable of doing what you are asking for them to do. They provide more then enough float for most powder days and at the same time they are no so wide that you won't be able to make a few runs through the bumps. One of the areas that these skis really do perform well in is crud.

Now as for specifics the Prophet 90 and Dynastar Big Trouble are going to ski fairly similarly. They are both skis that I would consider stiff freeride skis and the Dynastar would be a bit stiffer  then the Prophet 90 in the fore body allowing it to bust through crud easier. The Atomic Snoop Daddy next season is 94mm underfoot so it will provide more float but because it is softer it will not provide the same performance as the Prophet an Big Trouble will on trail.

Check out these links for a  bit more info on the skis.......
