What Strange Furry Animal is Swimming in a lake North Texas?

Okay, I live by a small private manmade lake in North Texas (DFW)

I was walking my dog one day and I spotted this small furry animal by the lake shore (Concrete wall type thing) it immediatley ran in to the water and went under. I have seen it multiple times but couldn't get a good look of it. What could it be? I thought maybe a Beaver, but do they live in North Texas?
