tele means distant.... if it meant voice, then why is a TV a TELEvision?? or what about a TELEscope?? or TELEport??

telecommunications is any form of communication that is done over a distance, either via a wired or wireless connection.

it can include telephone communication, video conferencing, e-mail or chat rooms.

basically any technology  currently in existence, or yet to be invented that can connect more then one person together at diffrent locations to interact with each other, regardless if it is voice, video or text is telecommunications
