The semester finished at the end of may and my grandma was putin a hospice, in argentina. I had to leave right b4 finals began and i was able to make up all my finals except this spanish one, and some assignments. She told me to do them but its almost the beginning of the Fall semester, should I even do it? I sold the textbook back, I'm really depressed and wanted to drop out for this semester but financial aid got a major part for me this fall, its all very confusing, some advice needed asap, please..

  1. Your professor likely gave you an incomplete in the class, which remains that way usually until the next semester begins. If you don't hand in your assignments, your professor could end up giving you grade (which will likely be an "F" with the 0's you'll get for not completing those assignments). If you are thinking about not going back, then you really need to call your Dean of Students' office right away to look into getting a leave of absence. If you don't do that, it could lead to negative consequences should you want to return to school later on in life, even if you decide to attend a different college, as you'll have all of this information on your transcripts.

  2. I would contact your student academic affairs office about this.  They might be able to give you some guidance on handling this situation without flunking the course. If it turns out that you DO have to withdraw from the university for family reasons, then may be able to give you some options on what to do with you financial aid, so that you don't lose your financial aid privledges in the future.  In addition, they may be able to put you in contact with some community resources that you may be eligible for--just until you're back on your feet.

Good luck, and I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your G'ma, and all the trouble going along with it.

  3. I am so sorry about your grandma.  These things can be very upsetting, and I'm sure it is complicated due to being in another country.  I am assuming that you got an incomplete in your Spanish class?  In that case, you should definitely finish the assignments and make arrangements to take the exam.  Many schools have deadlines for when you can make up the work (usually between one and three weeks into the next semester).  After that, the incomplete can turn into an "F", which could really hurt you in the long run.

Also, you should see someone in your school's counseling center.  You do sound depressed, and that can become debilitating if you don't get some help with it.
