I belive it was the 96 season and Steve Yzerman was about to be traded to the Ottawa Senators. He came skating out onto the ice the 1st game of the season and the place errupted. Holland decided not to trade Yzerman, and 3 cups later, the rest is history.

  1. I would have figured that trading a Hall of Fame defenseman for Brendan Shannahan would've made a bigger impact.  He was fierce and, despite negative reaction from some fans, got a standing ovation during the game, if I'm remembering correctly.

  2. Vancouver Canucks traded the rookie Cam Neely for Derek Sanderson aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrg

  3. January 2003. The Boston Red Sox offer a 1yr contract to a 27yr old dominican poor fielding 1st baseman who'd hit 20HR's the previous yr but was released for salary reasons.

    The player: David Ortiz

Sorry I'm in a baseball mindset

  4. Trust me,when it comes to the Rangers and transactions...nothing ever defines the Rangers.I can't recall the last time the Rangers actually had a streak of cups and continuous playoff appearances, they've been inconsistent throughout there whole history. =D

I guess getting Messier meant alot for the team and it's fans, especially that glorious day in 1994 when the Rangers won the first cup in 54 years.

  5. The Penguins trading away Jaromir Jagr for Kris Beech, Michal Sivek, and Ross Lupaschuck. Didn't completely devastate the Penguins or give the cup to the Capitols by any means. It did however change the team for years to come.

  6. Our story is not so exciting. As a CBJ fan I have watched good players, and bad alike.

Some guys have been awesome like Rick Nash. But all our picks , so far have been futile .

I hope what Howson just did is a start.

  7. ughh, not since holmgren has been around, but two trades in the Clarke years id say would be

Peter Forsberg, Steve Duchesne, Kerry Huffman, Mike Ricci, Ron Hextall, Chris Simon, Philadelphia’s 1993 1st round draft choice, Philadelphia’s 1994 1st round draft choice and $15,000,000 for Lindros.

Maxime Ouellet and three draft picks for Adam Oates.

Though i suppose for him the lindros trade looked good, since he was undoubtedly going to be one of the best players, concussions and injuries riddled his career with unfortunate incidents that didnt define many people at the time. Plus, trading away Forsberg before his great years was an awful move.

The Oates trade I felt defined the years under Clarke in that he always seemed to go after old players who were past their prime. Other players Clarke got that were old were Zhamnov and Amonte, and there were several others. When I looked through the Flyers draft picks throughout the 90s, I had trouble finding any first rounders for some time, due to Clarke's desire to trade away the picks. Not the greatest of trades.

  8. 07-08 offseason for the flyers brough in danny briere and kimmo timonen, totally changed the entire team around.

picking up vinny prospal at the deadline was the only reason we got so far in the playoffs.

of course, the lindros trade was sad and embarassing, since it literally was the reason the avs won the cup, and we won squat.

but of course the all time best in flyers history...

taking a huge chance on a skinny, diabetic kid from flin flan manitoba in the late first round, after almost everyone else passed on him.  Everyone else still kicking themselves for not signing Bobby Clarke.

  9. I'd say when Stevens came to Jersey in all that mess with St. Louis.  I'd say he pretty well defined the Devils while there.  and 3 cups later, the rest is history.

  10. I agree with ofp. Trading Brendan Shannahan for Scott Stevens defined the New Jersey Devils.

  11. 2005 when Joe was traded to San Jose from Boston.

  12. What has defined Ottawa for years is the Yashin trade
