My son is 12 & is a US Size 7-9. He needs good rugby boots, preferably cheap and even more hopefully with metal studs.

  1. i would say asics lethal DS IT because greg inglis and many other players wears it.it cost around $159AUS

or the asics lethal tigreor IT because it looks really cool. and will cost $199AUS

  2. it depends on where he plays as well

  3. I just cut the toe cleats off a pair of football cleats with a pocketknife.  I've known people to have alot of success with soccer cleats. In a lot of places in the U.S. rugby cleats are a detriment, it all depends in the area. In OK, they kill you in the red mud.

  4. Here is a great link to some inexpensive rugby boots.  You probably won't find anything you are lookng for in the sports store.

    www.rugbyimports.com

On the left hand menu, click the "Rugby Warehouse" link, then the "warehouse boots" category.  I would stay away from hightop boots unless your son is a front row (hooker or prop) or a lock.  Be careful about adidas, they tend to wear out quickly.

You may also want to invest in some extra studs (if the shoes you buy require) and a stud wrench.  Do not buy football cleats, as they are illegal in rugby.

  5. Well if he's just started he would not need anything amazingly pricey just enough to be able 2 play in.    i would recommend  a pair of any kogga boots for him as they are a Gd all round boot and can be used for any position in the team. these would range from 25+. these would contain all metal studs as well. I've played rugby since i was 5 and I'm still wearing koggas now =D  i hope that helps and he enjoys the sport. =) x

  6. go down to ur local rugby shop(real sports shop in watford or ast albans is gd) and get the jonny wilkinson addidas boots

    size 6+ £120

    under dat is bout £30

  7. If your having problems getting good boots - try this online shop - www.onerugby.com.au -  they have a great selection of boots available from juinors right through to seniors. I would also ask his coach/other parents what sort of boots they have. The important thying is that fit well and are comfortable for him yo wear.

  8. I've found there's no real need for metal studs anymore, unless your son's in the tight 5.

As a back, I find that blades (plastics long studs things) are all I ever need, I guess they can be a bit annoying in the mud, but here in Australia that's not often a problem!
