What US space goals would you propose?

Currently we're on track to finish building the ISS, then go to the Moon and establish a permanent base there, and then, eventually, to send human missions to Mars. Would you propose another set of goals?

A realistic defense against collisions with asteroids, meteors, and comets.  If the Earth gets hit with one of those large enough to kill off life, all other goals are irrelevant.

Yes, stop everything. Why go to the moon or another planet when we can't even take care of the one we have? We are so incredibly irresponsible the environment is collapsing all around us and someone actually wants to waste money to fly around in space? We are wasting money when people on Earth are so poor they are unable to eat. Could you explain what is the point? The new goals should be "realistic priorities."

Human missions to Mars are a reasonable short term goal (like the next 50 years).  I would like to see us move most industry off the planet and restore much of the earth to a more pristine state.  Much of that could be accomplished either on the moon or in earth orbit.

to send a probe to one of jupiter moons called europia. it has twice the amount of waater than earth and there could be live there.

i would forget The Moon and Mars. I would build a star ship. Now we don't have warp drive ( yet ) but we should be able to travel through space. I would use nuclear power and as for food, I would stock up on frozen foods and powder drinks.

I see no reason why this should be a problem.

EDIT--- I just read what that other guy said about "why waste money on space travel". Why? Because the cure for all sickness is out there. The cure for world hunger is out there and the need to have have money is very real but not here.

One day it will happen. People will start living for each other and forget about money and politics. I feel we need help from an Alien race to figure out how.
