I've decided to become a vegan. I know that pulses and nuts are good for protein but I had no idea that Quorn wasn't. What do I eat instead?

  1. Soya milk, almond milk,seeds,nuts,brown rice,quinoa,tofu.

visit some independent health food shop (Holland and Barret t is c**p) and ask for advice. you'll find that people who own/run those shops are often very knowledgeble and willing to help.

I've been a vegan for 20 years and I'm doing fine!

  2. You have good answers already but the people suggesting eggs must not have read the question properly. Quorn is not vegan, nor are most Morningstar products, just check ingredients before you buy. In addition to the other suggestions, I use a lot of TVP (textured vegetable protein), it is very low in fat, high in protein and cheap! Its great for tacos, burritos and chili.  I also like Gimme Lean to make veggie loaf, veggie burgers, veg balls and stuff like that. Tempeh is great too. I think you will love being vegan, I do! My fave cookbook is "Vegan With A Vengeance" (just ordered Veganomicon).

  3. I eat a lot of peanuts and almonds. Also soy products.

  4. My personal favourites: soya and lentils, mmmm

  5. soya products are good.

  6. Protein intake is not usually an issue for a vegan as long as you eat a healthy varied diet!

Beans, nuts, legumes, grains, tofu and more are all fantastic sources of protein.

If you are worried about your protein intake I suggest you take a look at the following website. It lists common plant-based foods and their protein content: http://www.vegparadise.com/protein.html

    Hope this helps :)

  7. I found this article useful for tips on adding protein to your vegan diet:

It discusses easy dietary changes and additions that will naturally add more protein to your diet as a vegan. Hope it helps!

i did a food project fo a year at school all about vegetarian and vegan food. i found tofu products were high in protein and popular with vegans i know.

make sure to eat plenty of grreen vegetables for iron, and you need to find a way of getting vitamin b12 into your diet, probably with supplements, as it is only found in animal sources eg. cheese.

  11. As a vegetarian you can gain a SUBSTANTIAL amount of protein in a most healthy way through Egg Whites. By taking out the yolks you get rid of the cholesterol. The average amount of protein in one egg white is 3 grams. Egg whites have proven to have many high quality healthy muscle building and strength effects in the body. Careful with the nuts as a source of protein, Nuts contain fats that can stick to the body.
