Were these minority groups all considered "colored" for the purposes of segregation? Additionally, what was their place on the racial totem pole of the Segregated South?

  1. To fully answer this question you would need to chose a specific time and area and group of people. Example: Choctaw Indians lived in Mississippi where many of them attained great wealth. They were then moved via the Trail of Tears to Oklahoma where in time some again attained wealth and power.

I believe that the Native Americans that located in Oklahoma suffered less that many of the other tribes. I feel that the African Americans have been the most oppressed of all social groups and still suffer much discrimination.

  2. Very low .

Native Americans were called redskins, Asians were yellow, and it depends what kind of hispanic.

  3. Good question.

I'm not really sure if there were any hispanics/asians/etc. living in the south. It's easier for a white hispanic to assimilate into the south than an asian. Also, Native americans were pretty much secluded because they live on their own reservations.

  4. Anyone not considered under the banner of "White" was subject to varying degrees of predjudice and segregation and no one was tolerated if they did not know their place.

All of them depending on situation were treated better than Negroes.
