I am a 15 year old boy from Australia, i play 2 games of Rugby League a week and 2 games of Rugby Union a week, i weigh 70kgs and i am 6ft. I have been lifting 15kgs and doing it in reps of 50. i want to lift more because that is getting easy but i dont want to hurt my body. what should i lift?

Or should i start going to the gym with my mates? if so what machines should i use there (i only go to the gym once a fortnight and do a cycle class and boxing class)

  1. Your not going to make any progress is strength doing 50 reps.  Strength is gained from using heavier weight and lower reps.  Sets of 8-10 reps would be a good starting point for a begginer.  It would be a good idea to go workout with your friends.  Having other people with you to push you will really help your progress.  Don't forget to use free weights too when at the gym.  Hit all your different muscles and don't neglect anything and you will get much stronger.

  2. everyone's body is different... heavy weights really dont do the trick for me so i do more sets and reps at a lighter weight....

  3. what ever weight you feel comfortable lifting. a weight that you can feel using your muscles though, but isn't putting to much stress on them.

  4. Hi,

building muscle can be a tricky thing. The fitness conglomerates give  shoddy "systems" to boost supplement, steroids and equipment sales.

Your challenges are valid, and Vince del Monte answers them at his site. I propose you click on:http://doiop.com/build-muscle for top answers.
