i'm doing a project in my history class, and pretending to run for president. I have to make like a slogan, a made up political party, and list 2 things I would do to help the nation if elected. It's like a really corny project, and I need a lot of help. Any ideas? thanks!

  1. The first thing I would address is health care. I have sent my health care plan to both candidates and hope that they give it serious consideration.

Second thing I would address is the ungodly national debt. In order to reduce that to an acceptable level. We will have to raise taxes on the middle and up wage earners. A minimum payment of $500 billion per year has to be made on the debt until it is paid off.

Third thing I would address are ear marks. Over $200 billion is being paid out each year in ear marks with congress adding an average of $15 billion more each year. All of those programs would end.

Fourth thing I would address. Our dependence on foreign oil. The first step in addressing that would be to allow more drilling. It doesn't matter where. ANWR, off shore, in my back yard it doesnt matter Add to that drilling a mandatory 50% increase in fuel mileage and a requirement that at least 20% of all vehicles produced each year are CNG powered dual fuel vehicles. Additionally more funding needs to be diverted to perfecting hydrogen fuel storage so that we can finally make that switch to a hydrogen economy.

Fifth thing I would address would be education. We have to provide equal funding for all schools so that our children have a better chance at success.

Sixth thing I would address is illegal immigration. All illegals would be deported and new fence would be erected. Not a wimpy chain link fence, but a real 50 foot high concrete barrier. I would reduce the fees associated with applying for permanent residence. People are free to immigrate here, we encourage it, but they have to do it legally. If people just want to come here to work, then they need to come here on a work visa. The fees for those visas would be greatly reduced to encourage people to do enter legally. Lastly I would make a national driver license/ID card. They would be issued by the federal government, but all fees would go to the state of origin.

Seventh, I would increase research and development funding for NASA and the military. Its our technology that gives us the edge on the battlefield, and the best thing we can do is to increase the technology edge.

There are many other issues that need attention, but those are the primary issues as I see them.

  2. Your Slogan: "At least I am not George"

Political Party: The IndoDemoRepocans (pronounced Indo-Demo-Repo Cans

2 things to help the Nation: Not be George Bush, Not be d**k Cheney

  3. Are other students going to be voting? If so, choose topics and ideas that will interest them and not to things their grandparents would like. For instance, lower or raise the legal age for this or that. Do that and I think you will have a pretty good shot at it. Oh...don't forget to cover all levels of student mindsets. Nobody likes a narrow minded politician.

  4. I would help people learn to rely and depend on themselves again so they would realize that government is not the answer to all their problems.

  5. I'd get us out of the war business.  I'd put the full weight of the Presidency behind the search for alternative energy.  I'd increase funding for medical research and fine the socks off American businesses who take our jobs overseas.  I'd increase the funding for the Department of Veterans Affairs health centers and hospitals and upgrade Walter Reed so it's comparable to the best medical centers in the world.  And in the biggest cost-saving measure of the century, I'd fire that incompetent ape Michal Chertoff, abolish the Department of Homeland Security and hand responsibility for guarding our shores back to the agencies most suited for the task: CIA, FBI, NSA, the Coast Guard, Border Patrol - and mandate that they cooperate and share information.  And that would be just my first hour in office!

  6. Here's the bitter reality.  The power of the president is very limited by the constitution.  Most everything that can be done has to go through congress.  Only congress has the authority to make law.  As president, you can veto bad law or any law that the constitution doesn't grant congress the authority to create.  That's actually your constitutional duty as president, to uphold, defend and protect the constitution.
