The best radar/laser detector under $250 is the Beltronics Vector 965 (see source for link). However, the Bel Vector 965 is not in the top 5 radar detectors available. And, although most radar detectors also detect laser, it only takes .2 seconds (2 tenths of a second) between when the laser hits your vehicle and when your speed has been measured. That's not nearly enough time to check your speed and adjust if needed. If your radar detector alerts to laser and you are speeding, you might as well pull over and wait for the ticket.

If you are concerned about police laser, the only option is to use a laser jammer. Like radar detectors, laser jammers are also LEGAL in nearly every state. But if your budget is only $250, you won't be buying a laser jammer. So if your budget is only $250 and you are concerned about laser, save your money for your next laser ticket and pay more attention to the speed limit.
