  1. I don't know where you are, but I have one piece of advice. Make sure the person going with you knows what he/she is getting into. You said they have never been camping? Maybe looking for a "rougher the better" isn't the best idea for a first time. However, I might be wrong. If the person loves the outdoors and they have been swimming, hiking, fishing or whatever than it might be fine. I don't know about water, but if you are looking for "rough" check out the National forests. Or maybe you can find a walk-in site somewhere. They often are very secluded and pretty rustic. Good Luck I hope you both enjoy it.

  2. The best place to start researching for a campsite, is Reserveamerica.com.

You can search by proximity to your place by zip code.  The site will list campsites by the distance to your home.  You can click on any site that interest you and the site will show you details about that given campsite, including a map showing all the tent sites on that campsite.

I am sure you would be on your way to a great campground near you. Have fun!

  3. Yellowstone. Everyone should make a trip there. You can find backwoods and remote trail campsites and hundreds of things to do.

  4. One website you can use is http://www.recreation.gov/ . It is a government website that contains all the campgrounds and campsites managed by all federal agencies (ie, national parks, national monuments, national forests). Using the site, you can search for sites by location and provide search filters such as what you want at the campground (lakes, fishing, etc) or how you plan on camping (tents, cabins, rvs). Once you find a campground, it will show you a map of the sites and there availability as well as a description of each site. Depending on the popularity of the camp ground, the site descriptions can be very thorough. You can also reserve and pay for the camping site on the website.

  5. A nice place I know of is on the buffalo river in northern Arkansas, just

below Mountain home, in the Ozarks.

  6. well if you are in California here are some in my area

  7. Search the state park where you live and type in the things you would like to do and choose a place you think you may like and go for it.

  8. trinity, ca

  9. In order to properly answer your question, we need to know approximately where you live - like in which state and what part of that state.  If I tell you all about camping opportunities here in upstate New York, and you live on the other coast, it won't help you much, will it?
