Well, it depends where you are going. Canada gets very cold in the wintertime, so take some warm jumpers, but be prepared to invest in a proper winter coat once you get there. Everything will seem very expensive at first, and the things you miss will be those you least expect. Take some of your favourite sweets and some recipes from home. Most cities have Indian stores to buy foodstuffs, but a little masala dabba with a little of the most common spices will help tide you over till you find out where things are.

Most importantly take your motivation, an open heart, and a sense of humour, you'll make friends in no time!
