  1. I'm pretty left wing I went to a Free school -not Summerhill I wasn't a boarder - In my school which was small we had to be engaged in work all the time we were there adn had to be polite, but what we worked at was up to ourselves.

I foudn that it as stood me in good stead as at an early age I took control of my own learning, and thourghout my whole life learnng has been central and what I love.

Books to read but probably outdated are

    Neil Neil Orange Peel

    Deschooling Society - Ivan Illich

Freedom to Learn - Carl Rogers.

Also my friend  a lifelong lefty teacher Jackie Hill wrote a book called

Person Centred teaching in schools- PCCS.

I think that this was going to be put on line - look at PCCS publishing

  2. Left wing (Liberal) and Radical (Marxism) have views that government intervention and oversight in educational programs benefit the population at large setting academic standards for educational institutions.

Conservatives view personal responsibility and free marker solutions to most issues but interestingly, President Bush advocated a program called "No Child Left Behind" which, is viewed as a detriment by many educators.
