Amazing quality of tennis, just unbelievable. Phew im sooo glad Rafa won :) ! Nadal played good first set, then completely rubbish in the second, playing passive tennis wasnt being aggressive, making errors argh! After Novak played fantastic in the 2nd i thought momentum would be with him but as we all no Nadal fought hard and deserved to win. Woo. Does anyone agree that Novak should be #2 very soon?! As much as i dislike him as a person, character wise the way he acts on court i guess thats just him and ive accepted it now! Anyway I cant take away the fact that he is an amazing player, i really think he could achieve the #2spot by the end of the year. I hope Roger can come up with something special and not let Djokovic overtake him aswell, yikes! But if im honest i definitely see Novak beating Roger if they met at the US Open in semis, assuming 2nd and 3rd seeds are in same draw.

  1. It was such an amazing match !!  My nerves were shattered when Rafa was playing really badly in the second set :-S lol.  Djokovic played amazingly in the second set but Rafa hit some stunning shots in the match !!  Rafa cleaned his act up though cause he played brilliantly in the first and third sets :) !!  It was a really thrilling match though, especially after the Safina/Jankovic match cause neither of them played well lol.  Although I don't like Djokovic that much, I know he's a really good player and I did feel sorry for him when he cried at the end :'(.  It must have really meant a lot to him.  It was quite bad for the match to end with a point like it did though cause the quality of tennis was phenomenal throughout the match and for Djokovic to miss that shot didn't really do it justice lol.  Anyway, Rafa for the gold !!!

    Vamos Rafa :) !! xx

  2. poor blake, gonzo is a cheater. im glad rafa won but it was sad to see novak cry.

  3. Wow, what an incredible and amazing match; probably one of the best this year, right up there with the Wimbledon final. I predicted that Djokovic would win in three sets, and boy, did it look that way for awhile after he won the second set and early in the third. The quality of tennis was amazing; at the start of the match Rafa was just unreal, almost machine-like. It was good for him to get two breaks because when Djokovic broke Nadal he was gaining momentum really quick, and you saw that when he ran by Nadal in the second set. Then it became pretty even in middle of the third set, when both guys were holding serve fairly easily. The turning point was at four games all when Rafa was down love-30. After he won that game, it probably got to Novak a little bit, and that was how Nadal broke to win the match. The last rally made my heart skip a beat. What an effort by Nadal to track down that first overhead smash, and he was well-rewarded on match point.

This match kind of showed a weakness of Nadal's on hard courts, if you can call it that. When Djokovic completely turned it around in the second set, Rafa did not really know what was going on. We all know Rafa's great ability to react and adapt to conditions in a match to his advantage, but I really don't think he knew what to do during that second set. Rafa's shots reverted to his usually extreme-spin shots, which aren't as effective on hard courts. Novak was just punishing him by taking the ball early and hitting very flat shots. The spin and heaviness of Nadal's shots did not bother him at all, unlike most other players (including Federer). I'm sure Djokovic knew that he really had a shot at winning this match and the only reason he lost was that he was making too many errors. You could see it in his face when he was crying after the match. It was only fitting that it ended on an overhead smash error.

  4. I saw the match on MSNBC, and I loved every minute of it. Rafa's defensive skills came in handy, especially on the last point of the match. I can't believe Djokovic didn't put the ball away like he should've, and he paid the price for it. I bet that's gonna sting for quite some time. Congrats to Rafa on a super match!!! Vamos!!!

  5. yeah it was really tense, although not as good as the Wimbledon final!

i'm very glad Rafa beat Novak, but i still felt sorry for him at the end, he looked really sad and i wanted to give him a hug!

  6. To see Novak crying was a first for me. Awesome match I knew Rafa would pull it off in the end!!!!!!!! I hope Roger wins gold in doubles and Rafa in singles...that would be perfect!

  7. i'm so happy for rafa!!!

    he's so winning on sunday.-

too bad the final isn't against james, gonzo didn't behave like good sportsman today, but that's part of the game i suppose.-

about djoko being number two, i agree with you, as much as we dislike him, he's a great player and rog's gonna have a though time defending the open.-

anyway, let's go rafa for the gold!!!

    and james for the bronze!!!

  8. I agree. You know something...Novak never played Blake before, and I see Blake getting the Bronze. Novak missed an easy smash to save the 2nd match point. How stupid is he? He even cried like a little baby going off the court. The final is best of 5 sets, and Nadal will win the Gold. Vamos Rafa!

Edit: Gonzales cheated. Blake should be in the final. I liked Gonzo, but he was a bad sportsmanship today BOOOO. I hope he gets crushed by Nadal 6-4 6-3 6-2 in about 1 hour and 40 minutes.

  9. rafa sux novak and federrer are still better

  10. I lke Novak n Rafa both so 1 can imagine wht a tough time i gone through............but spectacular match 4 sure the best match in this olympic.

  11. OH my god Mandy! Second Match point killed me, and it was sad for the match to finish on an error smash, but My GOD! What defensive skill when djokovic was hitting shots that would have been winners to anyone else. Best match I have seen all year, bar the Wimbledon final and Hamburg Semi-Final from Rafa and Nole. Unbelievable.

    Hopefully, Nadal wins Gold :D

  12. I dunno why u dislike him so much ... Novak is great and most fair player i ever seen.He eaven correct referees when they dont see ball hiting line. And gamrobert he didnt "cry like little baby" hes just disapointed he couldnt bring home gold or silver medal. He would give anything for his contry thats why he cryed... anyway u cant understand that. I hope he defeats Blake and get atleast one medal coz he deserved it so much. He will be no.2 soon and i hope no.1 in near future.
