  1. Stillwat covered most things but missed out the real Australian fare - meat pie and chips with either gravy or tomato sauce

this is what you eat at the football and any other sporting game so I would say this is it, together with the "occasional" beer of course

  2. A typical Australian meal today might be a cold picnic at the beach or at a nature reserve.

    Fish.

  3. Like what Ross M mentioned what many Australian families eat is pretty similiar to English homes. And Aussies are really fond of the BBQ (barbie), some do it every weekend regardless of the season.

Based on what I saw when there, common & popular Aussie food includes various seafood (fish & chips with different fish choices, oysters, yabbies, BBQ prawns, Balmain bugs etc), meat pies, sausage rolls, carpetbag steaks (steaks with pockets of oysters), roast chicken (chook), rissoles, local meat like kangaroo & emu, Aboriginal bush food like wichetty grubs. There's the sweet & baked stuff too: lamingtons, pavlova, Anzac biscuits, damper bread etc. Not to mention Vegemite, you could spread some on your toast & also cook with it but I think it's an acquired taste for foreigners.

  4. A ' typical' Australian evening meal would consist of grilled or fried beef steak or lamb chops accompanied with potatoes and vegetables or a salad, once a week there would be a family roast most often leg of lamb or a chicken.

BBQs on weekends are also common.

With immigration most households will also have a pasta dish at least once a week, dining out is often a choice of Thai, Greek, Lebanese, Italian or a 'Modern Australian' fusion restaurants

  5. I would say it evolves mainly in british food . Pea soup, Steak but I think it's mostly fushion from recipes all over the world.

  6. NO such thing really. Nothing from the Outback Steakhouse - thats for sure. Kangaroo is Australian, but youd rarely find it on an Aussie dinner table.

Im going to go with Meat Pie - not a "meal" per se, but Aussie through and through.

  7. we have Pepper steak, salad and chips like 5 times a week

    its pretty australian
