What about Nintendo?

I absolutely love the old nintendo games. I was looking on Ebay for an old nintendo and found a top loading NES Nintendo system brand new. Do you think it is good to buy this and will it play my games like the original did?

Here is the Ebay add.

  1. The top loading NES console you are referring to is called the "NES 2". It was released in the mid 1990s. I own one. It will load and play all licensed games from the original NES console without the technical problems from the original console.

However when Nintendo created the NES 2, it designed it in way so that you couldn't use unlicensed materials such as the Game Genie or pirated Famicom games.

However, I did manage to find a way to insert the Game Genie even on the NES 2. Basically the Game Genie's cannot be used on the NES 2 because of its width. What I did is used a saw to slightly reduce the width of the Game Genie (I cut about 2 cm on each sides of the Game Genie) so that it could fit in the top loading spot of the NES 2. Now I can use the Game Genie on the NES 2 just like  on the original NES.

By the way, the image from the link you provided looks like a replicate of the NES 2. It doesn't even have the "Nintendo" logo on it. If I were you, I would stay away from it.  Instead go for a real NES 2 like the one from the following link http://cgi.ebay.com/Nintendo-NES-Top-Loa...

  2. It's not an original which would be a good buy for keepsake. If you want to play NES games just use an emulator.
