  1. Bass are predators and usually like to hide in cover and quickly catch their prey.  Bass can be caught on many things: spinnerbaits, plastic worms, tubes, jigs, swimbaits, crawdads, and anything else that resembles a living creature.  There is not one best way year round to catch bass usually, tubes and worms seem to work best when they are spawning and also when water temps are not optimum.  Spinnerbaits will also work during the spawn and when the water warms up and fish become more active.  I would tie a tube onto your line with a waited hook, bounce it along the bottom and see what you catch.  Good Luck.

  2. Now that you are entering fall season lets look at this. Time year makes a difference. Fishing is best in shallow water. 1 foot to 5 foot deep. I prefer to use jerk bait or top water. The jerk bait I like to use is minnow type bait that is very colorful. Bright colors. This color seems to work well in the fall. I also like to use buzz bait for top water. I find basic white in about 1/4 ounce works very well. Pull bait slow as possible across surface just enough to keep it on top of the water. On either bait about 12 lb. test line works very well. Hang on !

  3. Go Bass Pro to buy a set of Shimano spinning reel combo or the Rapala combo if u don't know how to choose. A set of about $100.00 to $150.00 combo should be pretty good for a beginner. Cheap noodle rod usually end up broken by the owner and thrown to the bottom of the lake.

10 to 15 lb tested Power Pro. Size 4 or 5 worm hook with various color of senko would do.

The following youtube may give u a little idea of how to pick the color.

Cast far, let it sink naturally and retrieve slowly with a little tug with the rod tip. When u feel the fish bite, no rush but wait till it pull again bcos u got to give em some time to swallow the whole worm. The smaller the bass, the bigger the bite.

Find the weed bed or shade along the shore line with some structure at the bottom, but the colder it get the deeper they go.

  4. go to the library and read the books on how to catch bass and you will read forty books on forty ways. do though read Fish Have no Hands genius book on fishing essentials. then by learning the waters you fish what type baits will best be suited for your experience and equipments limitations. understanding what you can do and can not do will be the foundation of your own success. By extending the limitations of your abilities, and learning new techniques for this bait and that bait and how to cast it present it and retreive it is part of the journey. You can not shorten the course. It is tried and true that if you want it you can reach it. Learning from the T V shows like Bill Dance and Jimmy Houston and Hank Parker and well all of them somehow will somewhere during the show talk about what bait they are using show you how to cast it and present it and then catch the fish as well. They even teach basics like boat placement, knots and equipment choices.

  5. If you are going to fish live bait go with shiners or shad, depending on what part of the country you are fishing. If you are going to fish lures, go with the topwater stickbaits and buzzbaits (as mentioned). We are coming up on the best part of the fishing season, I refer to it as the fall feeding frenzy. These fish will be gorging themselves before the winter sets in and their metabolism slows down. The action promises to be hot and heavy. Work these baits as sporadic as you can while making as much surface commotion as possible. You cannot be too aggressive for these fall fish so grab your gear, get out on the water and give it a shot. You'll be glad you did. Tight lines!!!
