when you choose another state in which to attend university, you have to pay OOS tuition. Do these same students qualify for in-state tuition after the first year, for having lived there for one year?

  1. Some states have agreements with other states (or even Canadian provinces) to offer out-of-state students lower tuition or sometimes resident tuition rates. It's generally called tuition reciprocity. If you're considering a college in a nearby state, check with your state's higher ed office to see if they have reciprocity agreements.

  2. In-state tuition only applies to long-term state residents, not those who have moved there for school.  You would still be classified as out-of-state.
