Is the trucking indusrty a good career move? I just want to know as I'm considering becoming an over the road truck driver. I know the gas prices are high, but those costs are just passed to the consumer anyways.

  1. Well, I guess it depends on what you like to do. If you want to see the country from the seat of a truck and can stand the long hours of driving day after day after day then go for it. :-) Driving a truck on a day to day basis is not as easy as it sounds though. Plus you will have to be willing to drive in all types of weather year round. If you are from the south driving a semi on ice up north is a whole other challenge. You also have to keep a log book on fuel purchases and the miles you drive every day along with paying more attention to the traffic laws then you would driving your car. Just a few traffic tickets can kill you.

As far as fuel costs if you drive for a company they will pick up the tab for the fuel. It's mainly the owner operators that are getting hit hard with the high fuel prices.
