Question:

What about risers?

I've come to the conclusion that my big feet are slightly too large for most women's snowboards. However, I've heard something about risers that allow you to use narrower boards?

Does anyone know about risers? can you explain? what are good ones to get? blah blah blah..

I wear women's 10.5 shoes by the way.

  1. I think before you run out and grab some risers make sure that your bindings are centered laterally across the board. Most people just put their bindings on the board and adjust the stance width but not moving the binding laterally across the board. An easy way to tell if your foot is not centered on your bindings is your turns, does one come around quicker that the other, if the answer is yes then your foot is not centered. But if that is not the problem possibly the board you are on is not right for you, while there are no real Wide boards for women. Some are wider than others, just look at the waist width. To really answer your question the 2 risers I would suggest would be Burton Risers or Palmer Power Link System. Keep in mind that the ride will change with risers, by elevating your bindings off the board the response you feel will be quite different than normal. Like Walking in platform shoes, rises will help eliminate toe drag but depending on what type of riding you do their will be a new learning curve to deal with.

  2. Yes, risers can work for you.  They go under your bindings to put more space between your boot and the snow - hence the name risers.  This extra space will help prevent your toes or heels from dragging in the snow.  If your toe or heel overhang is bad enough it can completely skip you out of a carved turn.  As far as the ones to get - that depends on your setup.  Just do a search for "snowboard riser" on any search engine and look for retail sites that sell them.
