  1. The other guy is lying.

It really depends on what state you live in along with what city and what type of city. If you live in a downtown city area, you'll most likely live in a condo, studio, or apartment. If you live in a suburb area, you usually have a decent sized to a moderately large sized home, but every city has their "ghetto" part. I live in Iowa, and I live in West Des Moines which is one of the richest suburbs in the US. We have lots of big houses with big lawns. The houses that you're thinking of are the kind of older kinds, but very beautiful. We do have those here too, but I'd say the "typical" American home is a big house with a big lawn. Typically white or beige.

As far as school goes, not all schools are violent... but in the last ten years or so there have been quite a few threats. But schools that are in big cities usually are pretty good because those cities can afford to have metal detectors, security guards and such. Our colleges are quite good as well. Most every college has some degree or program that they are known for. So either way, the US is a good place.

  2. I'm American, myself. I can tell you that we are not like American families we see on TV. So I assume the same is true of English folks. I live in a small, modest home in a small city. The only American TV star I resemble is Rosanne Barr before all her plastic surgery.

  3. Most English schools are violent, full of bullies and hacked off teachers, while most English people live in very expensive, tiny houses.

  4. Hmm...the 'other guy' is not lying. It seems the 'other guy' read the question/understood the question. The question was "what are homes and schools like in England?" Last time I looked, that didn't include any part of Des Moines or Iowa!!
