Yeah, it's not a question of bad, it's a question of how bad.  We live in a finite system energy-wise despite what economists keep making projections on, so you have to look at what you're using up to create your platform for further use.

The cost of that "free"  power.

By the time you've refined the materials and shaped

the system, you've made a lot of pollution. and used

a lot of energy.

It takes a long time to recover that cost.
