What about the girls name Gertie?

Gertrude Elizabeth was my grandmothers name. I got the name Elizabeth as my middle name after her. I always planned on naming my first daughter either Elizabeth or using that as her middle name. I have a son named Glenn, after my husband and his father and grandfather. And I have a "G" name picked out for if I have another boy. So I would like to find a "G" name for a girl, while still naming her after my grandmother. I thought about Gertie. It is what everyone called my grandma, and its not as old sounding as Gertrude. And it still goes with my G names. Is it too old? Do you love it, hate it? Her name would be Gertie Joy (Joy is from my mothers middle name).

to be honest, I don't like it.

why not keep Elizabeth to honor your grandmother's name and go look online for some more G names for girls.

I think it's really cute! and it's a plus that she'd be named after your grandmother and your mother. It's wonderful! I say do it!

My daughter is named after her two grandmothers.

I think its sweet---and it has sentimental value above all else. Classic names are being recycled right now (its the hottest trend)--so even if it sounds "old"....so does "Sophia"..."Emma" and "Olivia"....and those are three of the most popular names this year.

I like Gertie, but it does sound like a nickname.

I don't think Gertrude is a bad name. It's not "old" it's just not common right now. Uncommon names are nice.

For a nickname it's fine, but not for a professional adult (which she will be someday).

I hate it...sorry!  How about Gertrude for a middle name and use a name like "Georgia" or "Gemma" for the first name?

im not keen on gerie hunni but my middle name is gewdoline after my nan, or gwen for short....i personally dnt ike it but it might be to your taste.
