What about the other missing children?

Surely Madeleine isn't the only child to go missing in the last 14 months? Don't get me wrong, I'm not making some kind of dig at her parents who must have gone to h**l and back, but how come we've become so obsessed with this one case? I'm sure other parents are living in the same nightmare but what about them? What do you think?

I'm sure that the whole 'parents having the money' idea plays some small part in it like people have said, but it isn't the biggest reason.

I thik the biggest reason that this case got taken up so much by the public and others haven't is the media itself.

With Madeliene they could create a whole innocent 'blue eyed' (expression only people!!) child kidnapped in a nasty foriegn country story and make huge headlines which sold lots and lots of papers. Then they had the conspiracy theory headlines, the 'useless' foriegn police headlines, the parents of madeliene are evil headlines, etc etc, and they all sold vast quantities of papers.

All media (papers/TV news/etc) knows that if they put Maddies pic on the front page, they will get peoples attention and sell papers or get viewers.

Unfortunately not every child who goes missing can create such a media storm of conspiracy and headlines, therefore they wont sell as many papers, therefore they dont get as much attention. Even though they should.

the reason the maccann case has received so much publicity is that the vast majority of the public believe that the parents killed the child, so the case has long since been about the child , it has become about the parents now and we have a fascination as to the share arrogance of them trying to insult out intelligence with their LUDICROUS lies and excuses

So many misguided people think that the McCanns are very rich when in fact they are only middle class doctors who have risen from the slums of Glasgow and worked hard for what little money they have. Yes they do have more brains than many of their critics but when you think about it that's not difficult to understand..

Hundreds in fact thousands have gone missing around the world the last 14 months. Over two hundred alone in one town in Africa, taken by rebels to be child soldiers or worse. The media in Europe has not mentioned them at all. There are more evil people out there than the ones the media think of.

In fact when I ask of people what they think of children going missing in Africa I get the questions reported and deleted always. I think their is some racist troll around here.

If you look at a site in central america there is one group they are looking for that kidnap kids to sell them to childless couples. Sad when childless couples put families through the same kind of h**l as the thousands upon thousands of families that are suffering the heartbreak of a child been taken.

Well yes, you are correct.

But i feel the difference is not the child but the parents when you watch the news its all about Gerry and Kate they have become a side show for this sad event which is why people have little time for them.

That and their blatant neglect of the children on that night and the previous nights running up to it :)

i agree, children go missing every day, but all we keep hearing is Maddie, it does not surprise me though because her parents aren't exactly poor, they have respectable jobs and Maddie is blonde and blue eyed...

Its so sad that any child or any parent has to deal with this...

maddie has also been to h**l and back so have her little brother and sister and their family why do people concentrate so much on the gruesome duo

I was thinking about this the other day I completely agree with your point.

1. I think it was a media scam she was 4 cute and british !

2. her parents got 2 MINUTES ! with the pope because there was so many parents from all over the world waiting !

3. Can't we all leave her alone obviously not that's who we are the press are cruel cruel people !

I think that in the UK she is the youngest, with no clue about her whereabouts.

Other children in the UK taken back with their father to their fathers country for example are missing, but not in danger.

That's the difference.

There are of course a number of children missing since then - Jeremy Vargas in the Canary Islands for example.

But what makes the McCanns stand out is that they are the only parents of a missing child to attack the police from the outset, refused to answer police questions or take part in a reconstruction and actually admit they knew it was obstructing the hunt for Madeleine!!

They hog all the attention to themselves, insist Madeleine is alive and highlight all the improbable sightings around the world - thus taking the focus away from finding Madeleine!!!

Their behaviour stands out as so opposite to what any rational human being would do in the circumstances not just parents!!!

Sadly it is just taking the focus away from finding Madeleine and even sadder that if she is found it will almost certainly be found she died that night!!

Most missing children in the UK are either runaways or are taken by family members.

Runaways often aren't cute and don't win public sympathy, and talking about children taken by family members is often a taboo in the UK because many of these children are from non-white/mixed race families and talking about them serves to highlight the massive cultural issues that are plaguing the UK right now.

There is also a strong stench of "white slave trade" panic because the girl was in a foreign country. If she had gone missing in London while her parents were out at Pizza hut then there would be a couple of months of outcry and then the family would have to come up with some good reasons why family services should not take away their other children whom they had also abandoned.

If the parents had been a poor unmarried black couple they would have been skinned alive by the British media for child abandonment.

If a black liberal single mother had lost her child people would be nowhere near as syphathetic.
