What about this name for a boy?

Question

My husband and I are thinking about names (may be pregnant not sure yet) we like the name Lucius

my husband comes from a very religious family and people say it sounds like lucifer- (???)

Do you think its a terrible idea?I know its not a popular name at all, I have a son and his name is Cameron. I just like how it sounds, if it dont work out he could be Luke right?

Also about the spelling- Lucius or Lucias.

I had the same issue with Dominic and my fiance!! He said it sounded like demonic!! Lucius LOOKS like Lucifer... Could you tell us how you pronounce it just so I'm not saying it wrong?

Luke is cool. But ask what your husband's family ideas and take them into consideration if you don't like them, stick to Luke or Lucas.

I think of Lucius Malfoy from Harry Potter as well as Lucifer...and I wouldn't name my child after either one!

I'm not extremely religious and it makes me think of Lucifer too. Then after that I think of the mean boy on Harry Potter. If you really like it, then it's your choice. And like you said, he could always just fall bad on Luke but he'll get picked on when people find out his real name.

Immediately I think of Harry Potter's Lucius Malfoy, so I wouldn't got with Lucius. If you really like that name, I'd go for Lucias, as the alternative spelling takes it away from Harry Potter. I don't think It's particularly like Lucifer, but other suggestions are Luke, Lucas, or Lukas, which I quite like. Good luck! =]

Definitely Lucius with a U.

Tell any religious people that if they read the Bible in Latin they'll see that Lucius is just Latin for Luke. (No connection to Lucifer, but that would be a cool name too!)

Hm, he might be made fun of for his name.. but he might not depending on the community you live in.

I think it is a neat name that kind of died a long time ago. You should bring it back!

I like both spellings Lucias and Lucius. Although Lucias looks more like Lucas, if you ever did decide to change his name to Luke.

Lucias/luke.  I like it but you have to like it too! You will be saying this name more than anyone else for the next 18 years so don't let relatives tell you how to name your baby, no matter how good their intentions! There are plenty of great names in the bible, there are baby books dedicated to Christian names, take a look at one if you are not satisfied

Kids are cruel in school, they could call him Mucus Lucius.  It  does sound like lucifer & it could be mystaken for lucious..In my opinion, I would go with a different name!!

Yeah it does sound awful close to Lucifer- which to your husband's religious family could be awful-- that was Satan's name when he was an angel, before he fell.

How about Lucas, instead of Luke or Lucius?  It would be close to Lucius and would appease your husband's religious family.

Lucius? No, not in this decade, honey.  Lucius Malfoy from Harry Potter is too well known, and he's a bad guy.  Your kid's name would always be commented on.  Plus, the name is quite close to "Lucifer", and that's one of the devil's names.  Sorry:(  But Luke is quite nice, and Lucas.  Bye!

Am afraid before I even read your first sentence the name Lucius brought to mine Lucifer and horror films but at the same time Lord Lucius. However, Lucias or even Lucas might be a better option because they do divert you away from Lucifer to Luke.
