Under bad, it says it needs a device to activate recording capabilities. Does this mean I won't be able to take pictures? What does it actually activate within the camera, and which one of these accessories is it? http://www.archos.com/store_us/product.html?country=us&lang=en&prod_id=0000000007

The way I read it, you need either of the two devices, to make the Archos a Digital Video Recorder (DVR).  DVRs are typically used to record TV shows.  You will be able to take pictures without the DVR recorder.

Both units are pretty much the same.  The one labeled "Travel" is smaller and lighter, so it is easier to carry in a suitcase.
