  1. I find this kind of thinking misguided and even harmful.

There's no reason to have a timetable for life. All it does is make some people complacent when they shouldn't be, and more people beat themselves up for no good reason, or panic, or rush into really stupid decisions.

There's no SHOULD in this regard.

I remember answering a question on this site, from someone dreading an upcoming wedding. She had had to fend for herself, and so was only starting college, where her high school set had graduated.

One she had already met again, was shocked and appalled, and made her feel like dog-doo for only just having started college (or being only in 2nd year due to being part-time because of work -- I forget).

She felt all defensive and as though she was a loser -- all because she didn't fit other people's time-tables.

May I just say both GRRRRR and ARGH to this notion?

If you're a reasonably mature HUMAN BEING, that's accomplishment enough. Where-ever else you are as far as milestones and such, no genuinely human being cares.

  3. Some people are late bloomers.

Some paint only at age 80. Some write a famous book only at age 60.

Some bloom early but wither later in life.

There are many ways to define success in life.

At 30, one should be more clear of his aspirations, working towards his goal, and defining his waking hours with tasks that contribute towards his goal.

At 30, he has a clearer understanding of life. His religious commitments, vision for life, and life's purpose are more defined.

He is gaining wisdom by age 30. He may have a life partner by age 30.

Avoiding evil and pursuing righteousness are my definitions of a successful person.

Money does not make one rich.

Material success does not mean that the person is successful. Many rich people have sleepless nights and unending problems.

I am glad that I have Jesus in my life. And I am looking forward to heaven. I have peace that many people do not have. And I am clear about my life's purpose.

To impact humanity in a positive way is how I sum up my theories about life.
