  1. sensory/science, blocks, art, music...what activity doesn't have a little bit of exploratory play included?  At the preschool stage our goal is to provide materials so they can "explore" in every center.

  2. When children engage in exploratory play they develop a perception of themselves as "explorers" - competent, confident learners who ask questions and make discoveries.

Children learn through play by doing, by asking questions, by interacting with others, by setting up theories or ideas about how things work and trying them out. If their play is well supported by adults, children will learn that trying things out, exploration and curiosity are important and valued ways of learning.

Children develop strategies for actively exploring and making sense of the world by using their bodies and all their senses, as well as tools, materials and equipment to extend their skills. They become confident in using a variety of strategies for exploring and making sense of the world, such as setting and solving problems, looking for patterns, asking questions, explaining and listening, and using trial and error. They develop mathematical concepts such as numbers, length, weight, volume, shape and pattern for meaningful and increasingly complex purposes.

Activities included....science and nature, waterplay, visits and outings.
