  1. Here's an idea. Take him to the zoo. Seeing the animal, describing what the animal is doing. Talk about the environment the animal lives in, how he interacts with the other animal. Even take 3x5 note cards and label the things around the zoo and then ask him to flip the card over and write the word himself. Chair. Trash can. Tree. Brick. Asphalt. Wall. Flower. Even the animals themselves. See the exhibit's plaque and pick out the key words ro the 3x5 cards to take home and study.

  2. Young children need to experience something to truly learn it. Flash cards will only give him a beginning understanding of a language. Make sure your son is experiencing English with all 5 senses.

Have English language children's music playing around the house. Sing the songs together or ask him to teach you the songs he sings at school.

Keep reading those English story books. Have him 'write' his own book. He can draw the pictures and write as many of the words as he knows how to. Then you can have him tell you the story and you write it down on the page. When you're done staple or tie it together with yarn. Now he can tell you his English story.

Look at family photos and talk about who is in the pictures. Go for a walk in your neighborhood and ask him to teach you what you are seeing in English. Play games in English (Duck duck gray duck, tag, catch, etc.)

Cook together in English. Talk about the ingredients, the flavors, how you measure and mix the foods. Then you get to taste the foods in English too - the best part!

Walk around the house and touch the different textures. What does the floor feel like? The pillow? The window?

When your son is using his hands, eyes, mouth, ears, nose, and body to experience something he will fully understand it.

As another poster said, make sure he is learning your mother tongue too. Children who are able to speak many languages grow up to have great learning skills.

  3. he will learn automatically in school. let him learn his mother tongue too.

  4. Check out the books from Usborne.  They offer some great language books, including books written in both English and another language.  You don't say what your native tongue is, so I don't know if it is covered, but it may be.  Also, they have some wonderful "look and say" type books that show a picture with the English word underneath.  That will help him associate those words with the particular object.  And kids love these books, since they are written especially for them, and have marvelous illustrations!  Check them out at http://www.ubah.com/g2687

  5. Make flash cards of the alphabet and say wat the sounds are. As he understands the sounds, begin teaching him words
