I want to start a 'green club' at the middle school I work at. 6th-9th graders of low to mid income levels. What else can we do besides encouraging recycling at home and school.

  1. Plant trees!

Have an hour where everything in the school (not anything super, super important) is turned off. Don't do this when there's no natural light.

Have a day in Home Economics where you turn your old clothes into new things.

    In Art, make recycled sculptures.

I agree with Michelle M - worms rock and everyone should walk/cycle to school!

  2. Water conservation in school RR and at home.

Ride bikes or walk one place rather than having Mom drive.

Encourage composting .. you can have a worm bin in your classroom to show them how worms are mighty and important.  The club can actually SEE recycling. The soil can be used in your garden, where the waste from your garden can go back into the worm bin!!!

You can order red worms on-line.

  3. You could have a bake sale type fundraiser and use the money to replace all the light bulbs to energy efficient ones in your school.

  4. ummm.... make their own little garden.
