What activities can we do on a cruise?

My friend and I are going to be 18 when we go on our first cruise next spring break. But we're worried that there will be nothing to do for us since we can't go to the bars or night clubs. Of course, theres the pool and spas, but does anyone have any other ideas of what we can do? Thanks!

  1. Well, it depends on the cruiseline and where you're going!  The bigger the ship, the more things to do.  I always end up torn between multiple activities!  But really, the good thing is that the cruising industry now recognizes that it's not just 50+ on board!!!

Cruises have a ton of organized activities.  Even if it sounds blah or goofy, check them out anyway!  For example, Carnival is known for their shaping their towels into animals.  I regretted not going when I heard about it later.  Goofy, yes but I heard it was a lot of fun!

Speaking of goofy, I loved their open deck party.  They had a competition between red and blue teams (depending on if your table number an even or odd number), so they incorporated this competition into the week.  My best friend and I ended up playing hot potato with a rubber chicken and cow!  We laughed so hard and joined their macarena dance line.

While sunbathing one afternoon we got to witness the Hairy Chest competition - one of the more freakishly things I've seen but made for hilarious conversation.

My fiance and I did the shore excursions - totally worth it!  I hate researching and planning, so this totally did it for me.  In one cruise I went wine tasting (which you can do in Mexico!) and in a couple of months we're torn between kayaking and ATV'g.  Other people I've known have done shopping and snorkeling excursions.  :)

I don't think you'll have a problem, just be spontaneous!  Look at your pamphlet the night before or in the morning and plan your day from there.  :)

p.s. don't forget to scope out the 24 hour food areas - ice cream at midnight is the best!

  2. There are alot of deck activites with bands and dancing. The spa has  exercise facilities and I know my son was 18 and although he couldnt drink he was allowed to be at the bar , although he did need to stay away from the bar at the casino. Have fun

  3. Honey, there are so many things to do on a cruise you'll have a hard time trying to figure out what not to do!

Everyday, in your cabin, your steward will place your 'Cruise Compass' (as on RCCL). This is pretty much a mini-'newspaper' of all the activites going on around the ship. There will be hundreds. Everything from comedians and karakoke to pool volleyball to napkin folding and board game tournaments. There will more than you can imagine. I always take a highlighter with me on a cruise and highlight the things I want to check out, just so I don't forget about them.

It will take you a couple days alone just to explore the ship in its entirety. That is always my favorite part of a cruise!

Whatever you do, you'll have fun. If you can't find fun on a cruise ship, then I don't know where you can have fun!
