What activities does Surestart do for three to five year olds?

I am researching Surestart for my health and social care portfolio, and I was wondering if anyone knew what activties Surestart make available for three to five year olds. Thanks.

  1. Have you heard of the scheme 'Birth to three matters'.  This has now been extended to incorporate 3 - 5 year olds.  We covered it when I did my childminding introductory module.  If you contact your local services for children they can direct you where to find out more about the activities it involves.  Or enquire at your local library.


  2. Arrange for childrens centres to be developed so that families can be supported in caring and educating their childrne.

    They run training courses for parents, practitioners etc./

    They give funding to preschools. toddler groups etc to build up the facilities.

    They ensure access to health visitors, midwifes etc.

    Sure Start are mainly in areas where there is deprivation and poverty.
