  1. First of all, you HAVE to have dancing! That's always great fun. Pick a dance number or two that is relatively easy and teach everybody how to do the steps, then dance! If the dance number is too hard as a whole, try making people do just one or two steps, like the palm clapping in Baabul's "Gaa Re Mann" or the chorus motions in K3G's "Say Shava Shava."

I love to play musical chairs with Bollywood music. You can make it even trickier by changing the rules; for example, you can say, "If you're not in a chair when the bangles stop tinkling" (lots of Bollywood songs include the sound of bangles) instead of "if you're not in a chair when the music stops playing."

You can serve Indian cuisine; there are plenty of great cookbooks out there, and the internet has plenty of recipes for treats like laddoos and spicy mango ice (a favorite at my parties!).

If you're having a party with both genders, you can have races. Turban races are very popular: whichever woman wraps the turban fastest wins! I've also heard of saree wrapping competitions. If nobody knows how to wrap a saree or a turban, teaching them how to can be fascinating!

One time, I went all out for a party, and I bought about 10 $40 pre-stitched sarees from Utsav Sarees Online for my all-female guest roster; that is, I bought 10 $20 sarees and had each one pre-stitched for an extra $20. (Mind you, this was a very special party, so I went all out.) If you're willing to spend some money, but not that much, salwar kameezes are often much cheaper. You can also request that, if your guests want a saree/salwaar, they cover half of the cost (ie, $20), but that's a bit of a downer.

You can try to paint henna on each other, or you can hire a professional to do some simple designs on the feet and/or hands.

Anklets, stick-on bindi, and colorful bangles make great party favors for ladies, and most men won't mind a turban and some almonds.

And of course, you can sit down and watch a Bollywood movie! If you want to make a game out of it and have an older crowd, try a drinking game, ie: "Every time Shahrukh Khan cries, take a shot!" Or do a sing-along.
