  1. Watch madrid derby.

  2. Depends somewhat on the time of year and week, and whether you mean all of Spain, or just Madrid, Spain.

In Madrid, You must go to the Prado...you just can't say you've been in Madrid unless you go at least once.  I would probably go every time, just to pay homage to a couple of paintings in permanent residence there...it's kind of an almost religious thing...You should also, if you are interested in more modern art, hit the Reina Sofía.

Palacio Real is really neat, too, and the Cathedral, if you're interested.  And the Retiro park.

If you are interested in the historic area, the Plaza Mayor is really neat, again, you almost can't say you've been unless you've seen it.  And if you're there on a Sunday, there's a stamp and coin market there, until 2:00, then go out throught the Puerta de Toledo and follow until you find the Rastro, the famous flea market (same hours).

If you get to Puerta del Sol (a quick five - ten minute walk from the Plaza and major transport hub) you should find the little plaque in front of the Guardia Civil office which marks the center of all Spain.  (it's kinda neat), then turn away from the big Tío Pepe sign, and go to La Mallorqueña and have sweets and coffee (one of the best confiterías I've been to).

Walk up the Gran Vía, and check out all the Beaux Artes buildings.  Good shopping, too.

Bullfights are Sundays in the summertime, search for the schedules (i don't have that link), and Fútbol, too, but that's fairly pricey, even the cheapest tickets are more than 75€, but if you're a real fan, you might enjoy.  Search for schedules under Madrid Real.  Flamenco shows are the best in Madrid, though I've never been, there.

How long are you there for?  there are tons of other activities if you are interested in them, or there are a bunch of places you could/should daytrip to.
