By convections of print I mean upper and lower class letters, punctuations and paragraphing.

  1. Read to them.  Point put such conventions in the text sometimes as part of the reading activity.  Write with them, pointing out that you use these conventions when you write.

  2. First of all,you meant to say 'conventions' not 'convections' .

Second, preschoolers don't need to know anything about paragraphs or punctuation.

Read stories every day, with the child on your lap so that he/she can see the print and the pictures.  Talk about the story and the pictures with your child.  This will help to develop many concepts that are important for learning to read at age 5 or 6.

At age 3, the child can learn the letters in his own name, and learn to pick his own name out when he sees several names written.  Between 3 and 4 he might be able to learn to print his name.

The best way for a young child to learn letters is to find pictures that you can help him cut out, group them by beginning sound, and make a booklet with them.  Relating the letters to the speech sounds they represent is important.

Play learning games with the child that will help him learn colors, shapes, and counting.  And the most important thing of all is for the child to have a good vocabulary and be able to express himself well.

  3. You might get with a preschool teacher and see if he/she has worksheets that have the upper and lower case letters with extra lines for your child to practice writing the letters. All of my children started doing this when they went to pre-k. You might be able to type what you want in your search engine and find a booklet on a website for  education supplies. There are all kinds of learning activity booklets out there. Good Luck and I'm sure your children will do just fine.

  4. You could either buy child education booklets which show letters A through Z or you can look on line to print pages to practice printing the alphabet and numbers.  There are a lot of nice things on the Internet. I bought paper, books as well as gone on line to have materials for my children to practice.
