  1. A lot of visuals, and anything else that will include the senses. Check the iep, there should be good info there also.

  2. This one is fairly easy. Make a chart with pictures and words that show the food chain. Or, better yet, have the kid make the chart. Most children with learning disabilities have some sort of auditory processing difficulties or underlying receptive language delays. That is why we always try to support them with visuals as much as possible.

  3. perhaps try using images printed from the computer of some type of flash cards, might help if there is something visual the child can relate too, or try a video, there may be some on youtube if you search "rabbit food chains"

    good luck

  4. We did this in Girl Scouts for a badge. To show the progression we put pictures on the girls, then the leader/teacher, who has a ball of yarn ,starts. "I am grass. What will eat me?" Then he/she will throw the yarn , while holding the end, to the child with ,say, a rabbit picture. The child will then throw the yarn to the next creature that will eat it and so on. It was a fun lesson as the "web" got bigger and the girls saw the chain as a visual. To show what will happen when a food source becomes extinct or scarce just take out a creature from the chain then the impact is real instead of abstract as the chain can't go any farther. Many kids will learn the matter very well this way and with the activity is remembered better. I hope this helps.

  5. This is an interesting question because most second graders, even in regular ed, are not strong readers.  Add to that the fact that this class would likely have a number of EL students who would have lower English access.  I would think that a properly designed lesson for second grade would consider reading access for ALL students.
