I have a B-15, BB-152 1799 silver dollar, I read it is a scarce coin, but considering the grade is the same as other more commons varieties, how much can it affect the price of the coin?

  1. A coin can be rare due to the variety or mintage or can also be some what common in normal grades, but very rare in high mint state grades or both. High grade early U.S. coins command a high value usually no matter what variety they are. Being a rare variety just adds to the value. An example of grade rarity is the 1945 Winged Liberty dime in low mint state grade of MS-60 it is worth $4.50, however in MS-65 with split bands it is worth $8,000 and that is what a dealer would pay. So in the end the grade of a coin is very important in pricing it. Nice coins with no damage and that have not been cleaned are easy to sell at usually a higher value.
