What advice would you give to someone who has never driven in the snow?

Tomorrow I am forecasted to recieve 1 to 2 inches of snow and seeing that I never have driven in it what advice can you give me? I am in Pennsylvania if you are wondering about the road crews. I must drive in the snow to commute to college.

a slow a steady speed is much better and give twice or more stoping  distance.... it does take some getting use toyou can read about it and we can tell ya but still you have to do it to know what its going to be like just drive slow and dont brake hard if you do find your self sliding let off the brake and turn into the slide.... just drive slow  and not so close good luck

keep a steady pace, not too slow, youll get stuck, too fast you can lose control

do not slam on your brakes, pump them when slowing down.

if you can, drive as close to the middle of the road if possible ( all the extra tends to get pushed to the outside, harder to drive on)

give yourself plenty of time to get where you are going, and dont drive too close to the person in front of you.

stay off side streets, they are less traveled, and last to be plowed.

DRIVE SLOWLY AND LEAVE ENOUGH SPACE BETWEEN YOU AND THE OTHER CARS FOR STOPPING. HAVE SNOW TIRES OR ALL WEATHER TIRES PUT ON YOUR VEHICLE, AND MAKE SURE YOUR CAR'S BRAKES ARE IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION. NEVER SLAM ON YOUR BRAKES, PUMP THEM SLOWLY TO STOP. START STOPPING AT LEAST A GOOD 10 OR 15 SECONFS AHEAD OF TIME.

do not do anything fast, hard or sudden.

go into a big parking lot and practice turning and "losing control".  you should learn how to "correct" a slide by steering into the slide.

Take your time and drive slowly, brake early and keep a distance back from the vehicle infront of you. This important if you don't have winter tires on. Check your tires and make sure there is enough treading on them and fully inflated to tire specs. The tire specs. are in lbs and post on the side of the tire. Fully inflated tires will give you maximum handling. If you do lose control do not step apply full pressure to the brakes or it will continue to slide, instead apply pressure and pump the brakes until you gain control.

Just be very careful about accelerating and turning in the snow. Even if there is no snow on the road, there still can be "black ice". SO JUST BE CAREFULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Drive like you have no brakes - because you can't be sure if you have enough traction to use them at any given moment.  Nothing is scarier that driving at 15 mph, hitting the brakes and sliding in slo-mo into an intersection!  Slow and smooth, gentle corners, brake early, leave LOTS of room when turning in front of traffic, and leave LOTS of room between you and the car in front.  Also, remember that you'll find a fair bit of ice as you approach intersections, since the cars that were stopped there have melted the ice a little.  When it refroze, it became more slippery - also, spinning tyres tend to polish the ice, making it even more slick.

Two hands on the wheel. Take it slow, leave early to give yourself enough time.   Don't slam the breaks and expect to stop.  A few slow short pumps of the breaks will stop you much faster.  Try not to over correct if you start sliding or lose control. Which brings us back to, two hands on the wheel.  Good luck.
