What affect did the growth in health care expenditures have on the shift from impatient to outpatient?

  1. Inpatient care costs more money.  Because the patient stays at the hospital 24 hours a day.

    If you shift some patients back to their homes and have them come part-time for out-patient care.  Then this decreases the cost of health-care.  

    But full-time health-care is more comfortable for patients.  And when you increase health-care expenditure.  Then perhaps more patients will become inpatients.  And the shift from inpatient to outpatient health-care will slow down.
