  1. Me and my husband go out alot and we always tip 15 if it was ok and 20 or more if we had excelent service food everything. we have only not tipped once and it was because it was a slow resturant the server took forever to take our order, he took it at the bar and we were at a table, and I had to get up to give him my ID at the bar for my drink, and another server ended up checking on us, and our food wasn't very good at all. we had been to the same place before and it was good and we had great service, they got a tip.

  2. The server themselves. They don't need to do much to get their 15-20 %. I dont blame them for the quality of the food or how long it takes to get it. They dont control that. As long as they let me know whats going on and not leave me guessing, I know it's not them slacking but the kitchen.

There basics of service to me are:

    1. Be polite..you dont need to be fake but dont be nasty either

    2. Keep my cup full

    3. Dont make me hunt for you..come by a few times throughout the meal

    4. Bring me things that I asked for...I hate having to keep having to ask for the same thing I asked for when I first ordered my meal..

Even when they suck I still give them 10%

  3. If they're an excellent server (prompt, checks drinks often, friendly) they get a 20% tip.  If they're rude, never come by to check drink amounts, etc. they get less of a tip...but I never tip below 10% because I know there's always a chance they were just having a bad afternoon or something.  I've honestly never had service bad enough to not tip, so I can't comment on that part.

  4. 18-20% regularly higher if its great. i ALWAYS tip even if it is bad service there are things going on that you cannot see and the server may be having some trouble. I have been a waitress for a while now.

  5. If I get a good server, I generally tip.  I don't look for anything special, just a server that seems to be genial enough to be pleasant,  but doesn't hang over me.

  6. I always start out with a 25% tip.  If my drink gets empty ormy order is wrong the tip goes down.  Also if you are a server it is bad to sit and talk to people you know when you are supposed to be waiting tables,  it irratates your customers.

  7. I usually tip 20% unless the server was horrible.

I tip bad if the server was snotty or didn't stop by to see if we needed drinks/whatever.

  8. 10-15% is what I usually tip, just because I don't go anywhere terribly fancy and I can't afford much more. I like my servers to be friendly, curteous, ask me what I need, etc. If I don't get something that I asked for, your tip goes down. If you don't come by a few times during the meal, your tip goes down. I can remember 2 times we did not tip at all. It took our waitress 15 minutes to come to our table to introduce herself to us as her server (only 4 other people were in the entire restaurant and there were 5 other servers....) and an equal amount of time to get our drinks and check at the end of the meal. The other time, this guy had brought his girlfriend into work with him for some stupid reason and talked to her for 5-10 minutes before coming to our table each time to ask us if we needed anything or to refill our drinks.

  9. what I can afford , only if they refill my glass ask how we are doing friendllyness if they dont come around they dont get nothing.I tip 98% of time

  10. I usually tip 20%.  I will not leave a good tip if my server is rude.  I like my dishes to be removed when we are done eating and my drinks to be refilled.

  11. I tip 15-20 if they were polite and the food was pretty good.

  12. 18 to 20% is actually the standard tip for good service. If you feel like your server was attentive, made your experience enjoyable then try to meet that standard. Please don't avoid tipping based on things your server has no control over. For instance, if there is a problem with your order, base your tip on whether or not your server tried to make it right. I've been a server for years.

  13. Well, I've been a waitress for 23 years, OMG!, and I always tip good. But I think I'm more judgemental than normal people. As long as the server is friendly and she checks on us during the meal. Also, when we are finished, I don't want to sit there with an empty plate waiting for the server.

In PA, 15% is for breakfast and lunch. Dinner is 20% or 25%. But people do not realize what that is. People usually throw down $2, and think that's good when actually it's not.

I bought a tip chart in a bookstore at one time, so that way I know for sure. I think everybody should have those.

One time I didn't tip. But the waitress was nasty. And then when she forgot our salads, and our potatoes were cold, and she blamed us! Needless to say, I got nasty back. And then I wrote a letter to the owner, and he sent us gift certicates. He was very nice and wanted to know. So remember, if you have a bad experience, make sure the owner knows. Because otherwise, half the time they never find out!!!

  14. I usually do %15 for a great server, 10% for an average server.  If they can't keep my drinks full and at least get the order right..... that's is a BIG basis for my tipping.
