Question:

What age can I start hand rearing my peach faces?

My peach face breeding pair have recently laid 2 eggs. This is their 3rd laying. The first was unsuccessful and the 2nd was spoiled. I hope this shall go better than the last two. After they hatch in about 2.5 weeks, how long must I wait before I can begin to hand rear them? And any tips on keeping them healthy is appreciated as well. I have the basics but I want the best for my birds.

Thanks

  1. Yikes!

  2. 3 weeks, if you take them earlier they will in-print on you so they wont be able to breed with other birds, they will thing that they are humans.

  3. A PEACH is a fruit not a bird and last i ate they didnt have faces. thats gross. HOW WEIRD TO EVEN SAY THAT. maybe you mean cockatoo or pirate but no hun not a peach. lol. nice try though.

  4. If you plan on hand feeding them then start when they are around 7-9 days after hatching. If you just want to hand tame them, you can handle them for short periods of time right from day one.

I've both hand-fed and hand tamed lovies. Hand-feeding by far results in a much tamer bird, but is a huge commitment. You have to feed them every few hours round the clock, everything has to be exactly the right temp. everything needs to be not just washed but sterilized between uses.

If you take the time to handel the chicks several times a day from hatching to fledgeing they will become quite tame.
