What age did you give your baby her first food, what was it, and was it homemade or store bought?

My daughter is about 4 months old now and she watches us with a careful eye when we eat! I think I'll try her on a real food soon, but want to give her something other than rice cereal.

What age did your baby start eating real food? What was it? Did you make it from home, or buy it from the store?

Thanks!

  1. I stupidly waited till the 6 month mark that my doctor told me about. My daughter had colic and as soon as we started solid foods, it went away. I could have been rid of the colic if I had started two months earlier! I started with the traditional rice cereal.

However, my cousin who had twins started her kids on solid foods at 4 months. She started with mashed up banana's that she made at home. I don't think she ever fed commercial baby foods. She just made foods with low spice and no salt and then mushed them or blended them in a blender. By the time they were 7 months, they were eating finger foods.

  2. at 6 months, her 1st food was watermelon, which she basically sucked on..

  3. I started out with sweet potatoes and applesauce that I had made.  She loved it!  It was about 5/6 months.  I would have tried sooner, but she just didn't want it then.  She is almost eight months now and I cannot get her to eat baby food at all.  She has to eat what I am eating...just mashed up of course!

  4. If she is starting to grow a tooth then you can give her soft food or crush it or something.I gave my daughter her first food when I saw her first rice grain(that what I called her first tooth)Lol I gave her home made and It was porridge.

  5. i started feeding my son rice cereal mixed with formula at 1 month old he slept 6 hrs a night . Make sure its super runny he ate it right off the spoon

  6. Baby had store bought rice cereal at 6 months. My pediatrician said 4-6 months is normal for cereal.

  7. Both our kids started solids at 6 mths.  I make almost all my own baby food.  They started with pear, banana and avocado mixed with breastmilk.

  8. When my son was 5months my dad gave him a taste of banana.

Then when he turned 6months i gave him his 1st official solid, all-natural  avocado, he loved it =]

My son watched us too when we ate, he even got fussy because he wanted some, but he wasn't ready. He was ready at 6months, so he got food at 6months.

    GOd Bless

  9. At about 3-4 months I gave my daughter rice cereal in her bottle by cutting the nipple bigger.  It helped her to sleep at night.

When she was about 7 months I used to make her food from scratch by putting fresh fruits and veggies in a blender and then filling up ice cube trays (the tuperware ones with the lids).

  10. At 6 months, I gave my son avocado and thinned it out a little with breast milk.

  11. I bought stage one baby food from the store. the first one i gave my son was bananas at four months of age. he went through all of the stage one foods between four and six months. then at six months old i started him on stage two foods. then at 7 1/2 months old i started him with those gerber puffs, and then moved on to what i eat for dinner. like last night we had turkey, sweet potatoes and green beans. since turning 8 months old (he's soon to turn 9 months old) ive been giving him what i eat (i skipped the stage three foods and went straight to table food) he's chewing really well, and already has 8 teeth.

here is a site that gives you an age to age guideline ( but dont listen to the age part, cause i started my son at four months) try rice cereal from the spoon... gradually thicken the consistency... then move to PUREED veggies and fruits (remember only introduce one food at a time, and give three days before trying something new)

  12. I did start out with rice and oatmeal cereals, but at four months, I also gave my daughter Sweet Potatoes from Beech-Nut.  She absolutely LOVED them!  Her second food was pureed squash l made at home.  She also liked those, too!  But the homemade squash was a bit more expensive to make.

  13. my baby is about to be 6 months and i have tried mashed potatos on him and he loved them i have also gave him a few bites of vanilla pudding...he wants to eat what me and my boyfriend are eating and he trys to grab our food...

  14. The first thing I gave my daughter was rice cereal (mixed with breastmilk) when she was 6 months, but the absolutely HATED it.  I tried so many times, but I've never been able to get her to eat it (and she's 9 months now).  After giving up that I let her try Gerber applesauce and bananas, but what I gave her on a regular basis was the jars of Gerber cereal mixed with bananas/applesauce/mixed fruit.  For some reason she would eat these but not when I made up a home-made version, the little stinker!  Now at 9 months she eats all kinds of stuff, I just mash it up or cut it up into little nibblets for her to feed herself.
