my son is 14 months old and is still chewing on things, but I would love to get him to start, my husband tells me to wait until hes 2. I believe thats way too long to wait, but I have been known to be wrong in the past. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  1. My daughter was around 13 months when she starting scribbling with crayons.

My son, who is also 14 months, still tries to eat the crayons.  I only let my daughter take out the crayons if he's asleep because of it.

    :)

  2. About a year is a good age to start. You'll probably have to repeatedly stop him from eating it lol. As a former toddler teacher- please don't wait until the child is 2! That's way too late.

  3. What is with age?  Let the child start colouring as soon as it wants.  As a good parent, it is your job and responsibility to ensure that the child does not endanger itself and that means watching it to ensure that it doesn't eat the crayons and that it learns what is and what isn't food.  Never leave a child unattended except when sleeping and make sure it knows why you tell it NO.

  4. i would let him color just watch him and if he trys to put it in his mouth tell him no

  5. You can have them start as soon as you think that they will enjoy it. If you are worried about the chewing on the crayons, they have the ones that are encased and you have to twist them to have the crayon come out.

BUT the best invention in the world for this is the AquaDoodle. It uses water, that's it!! no mess no worrie, and with my daughter she loved it. We would cut sponges in shapes and get a dish with water for her. We did foot prints and hand prints and in a few mins it's dry and ready again for fun. Perfect for the short and long attention spans.

Have fun and remember how much fun you had when you were a kid coloring.

  6. The Right Age Might Be At 43. You Know? No J.K. I Think The Best Time Is When He Is 2 Years Old.

  7. I'd let him try it now. If he puts them in his mouth just take them out and tell him they aren't food.  Ask him if he is hungry and if so offer him something to eat.  He'll probably have a lot of fun coloring with them!  Maybe even try to tub crayons those are a huge hit here!

  8. Right around a year--you just need to watch him. Also, crayola crayons are non toxic, so if he accidentally eats a chunk out of one, it's fine. Just make sure he's seated and you're watching him constantly.

  9. Let him try to color with them. Just stay with him and make sure he doesn't eat them. Even if he did take a bite I know Crayola is non-toxic.

  10. My daughter was about the same age. Just watch him. If chewing on them is worrying him for health reasons, they are non-toxic & not made with asbestos anymore!

Try it for 15 minutes of close supervision & see how it goes! Kids will suprise you sometimes!

  11. Along with most other people, I had my two year old start coloring when he was about a year old. My biggest worry other than chocking was him writing on the walls and stuff, so I would just sit him in his high chair to color. Shortly after he started coloring, I got the color wonder paper and pens and have used them ever since. I love them! They have them in markers, paints and paint brushes along with different coloring pads.

  12. When he was about a year old. that's when he decided he wanted to write with it instead of throw it.

  13. Get the crayola non-toxic washable crayons. My daughter loved coloring, she started around 1. Just supervise the whole time!

  14. let him color as soon as possible just make sure they are non-toxic and if he trys to eat it take it away for a little while then later try again but when u take it away tell him not to eat it soon he will understand that he cant put them in his mouth

  15. Both of mine started around a year.  You do have to keep an eye on them to keep them from eating the crayons, but it's a great way to increase their coordination and make them feel like they're creating something really great.
