What age do i have to be to lift weights ( click for more detial)?

I am a 13 years old boy who is 5,4 and 115lb. I was thihnking of lifting weights to build some guns my dad said like when i'm 18 my mom says that 2 but i see my friends go to like in the garage lifting weights what do u think i should do explain

  1. Body weight stuff is all you need now

    Push ups , Pull ups/ Chin ups , Dips , squats , Lunges etc.

    You can start with moderate weights around 16 but you don't get full muscle development till you are finished developing into an adult & that can be 21 years old.

    So I also would advise waiting to do heavy weights till you are older.


  2. Start with bodyweight exercises

    Pullups, Chinups, pushups 1 leg squats

  3. i agree with dP, try excersises that use your natural body weight like: like, pushups, sit-ups, chin-ups and jogging ( to increase your stamina) the reason your parents don't want you to lift weights so early is that it affects your growth. At 13, you are still growing. You have growth plates between your bones that can easily be damage by the stress put on them from heavy weights, if these growth plates are damaged then your growth could be slowed or stopped.
