What age do kids start preschool at public school in florida?

My son just turned 3 in december and i want to know if i can register him for this september or if i have to wait until next year. i'm not askin about a private one or similar to daycare, i mean preschool at an actual public school where the kids go from pre-k until 5th or 6th grade?

i dont know about florida. but anywhere 4 years trned is best for schooling

I'm a preschool teacher in Florida, i don't advise you of sending you child to the vpk in public school since it is for the special needs children and the activities are limited for these children. you can send him to a regular preschool and the government Will still pay for his vpk too, take tours in the schools next to your house and ask about their curriculum and look at the way the school is set.

In Florida there is a Voluntary PreK program (VPK), but kids need to be 4 to be in the class.  You can try one other class, EELP.  It's a class for handicapped preschoolers from 3 on up, but most of them do take in regular kids as "reverse mainstreamers," which means the regular kids act as role models for the handicapped kids and help them learn to interact with others, learn social skills, etc.  Our EELP program charges the reversers a small weekly fee, $25 per week.  Each EELP program is different and some don't have reversers at all, but many do.

Teacher L gives a lot of great information you should look into.  I also teach preschool in Florida and there are different age cut-offs depending on the county you are in.  At my school he would have to turn 4 by December 15th of that school year to be admitted.  This date coincides with the K programs.  I would say that you need to contact the school and simply ask about age cut-off points.  Also, look into an appeal for entrance if you miss this date.  Many schools will allow appeals but do not advertise them due to EVERYBODY wanting in.  Good Luck
