What age do you clip a cockatiels wings?

my cockatiel is 8wks old and flys very well and reaches great altitude he even has his landing down well. I would like to clip his wings so he doesn't gain such altitude, but can still fly, glide like. Is he old enough to get clipped?

Since he seems to be flying well and with confidence, he is old enough for a wing clip.  PLEASE let someone do it who is EXPERIENCED.  Don't try to do it yourself.  Too many things can go wrong and you can hurt the bird or make it bleed profusely.  

Also why risk making the bird distrust YOU?  Wing clipping can be stressful for both the bird and you.

Let a vet tech, a pet shop (with experienced staff), local bird breeder or another owner do it for you... then you get to be the "hero" and rescue him when it's all over!  :-)

Your bird doesn't need to get his wings clipped.  It may seem like high altitude to you, but it is natural for birds to fly.  Birds like to fly and they also live longer and are generally healthier than birds that get clipped.  If you want to take him outside get a harness or flight suit to put on your cockatiel(it is like a leash for your bird so you don't have to worry about him flying away)

If you do clip his wings he will not be able to fly at all, but he will be able to glide down to the ground if he falls off you hand or cage etc.  If too much of the wings are clipped off then your bird will not be able to glide down it will fall like a rock so if you decide to clip the wings make sure someone that knows how to clip them does it.

As soon as possible.. If they get too much speed they can break their neck... I have a small Parrot,. I streched his wing out, took off about 1"  of feathers there and the real long feathers I also took about 1" off there,. this way he can fly somewhat but not hurt himself
