What age do you geld a colt?

I know each state is different, along w/ each vet, but what age do you geld a colt? also, "Around" how much does it cost? I am looking into a 10 month old colt that needs gelded...thanks!

Another consideration is the heat/bugs.  Early spring, before the flies hatch but after the ice and snow a year from when they were born is normal around here.  It really helps when he has some swelling and you need to walk him about.
