What age do you have to be to own a butterfly knife in Idaho(the state) or even to buy one in Idaho. If the laws change according to the city, I live in Coeur d' Alene Idaho.

  1. 18 +but the butterfly is illigal  take up boxing

  2. Idaho is not very specific about which types of knives are illegal.  The law says:  "any other deadly or dangerous weapon" which is very nebulous and requires law enforcement to make a judgement call.  Since butterfly knives are more "weapon knives" than "tool" knives, that basically makes them illegal to carry in public, threaten people with, or carry while drunk according to state law.   You can own them and keep them in the house though.  The age limit to transfer or sell weapons is 16, though a store has the right to bump that up to 18 or even 21 because of liability.

A hunting knife is technically more a tool, is better built and much more useful and effective than a butterfly knife anyway.

Kootenai County doesn't appear to be more specific, and Coeur d'Alene doesn't have much further except no weapons at parades (don't look at me, that's what it says).

  3. Why would you need to own a butterfly knife if you live in Idaho?

  4. Butterfly knives are illegal to posses because they have no use other than a weapon. Keep it at home and call it a paperweight like they do with brass knuckles and you're good.

Butterfly knives are pretty cheap weapons too. Get a good ol' hunting knife if you want a cool knife.\

Oh, and to purchase a weapon it is usually 18.
